[ Guess who got caught in the latest storm without any sort of umbrella despite the way the weather has been for a while now... yeah, these idiots. ]
Wolfwood, come on! [ Vash has already shrugged out of his coat and is now trying to hold it up over Wolfwood's head as well as his own. It's not working out great. It might actually be making things worse. ]
[ Unfortunately for Vash, Wolfwood is not being cooperative. Sometimes a man has never seen rain before—outside of his fake memories, which is weird, how can he have memories of something he never experienced?—so he walks rather casually down the sidewalk where Vash is trying to usher them back to the House.
He frowns, squinting at Vash through the droplets on his glasses, not entirely minding the warmth of his coat. ]
What're you so worried about, spikey? A little water never killed anyone.
[ They're both already soaked so it's probably worthless at this point, but Vash tries anyway.
It's amazing to see water just falling from the sky like this, abundant, without any Plants to speak of. The damp chill makes the metal staples in his skin ache, but that's not what's making him so anxious. ]
You'll get sick, and then you'll overwork yourself the whole time. [ Vash has no idea how he knows that - these fake memories are so strange. He just gives up on sheltering them both, leaving the whole coat draped over Wolfwood's head. ]
[ Why don't you take the coat then, dumbass. They are pretty soaked, and the coat is little more than a wet weight on his head right now. He thinks that they probably shouldn't be so amazed by this phenomenon, given how everyone around them is treating it as little more than a nuisance.
He's been googling a lot of things, but he'd never thought to question... the weather. That it could be something other than swelteringly hot or full of sand. ]
I'm pretty sure the ability to get sick was experimented out of me.
[ Sneezes.
... Which is follows up with a glare at Vash. Don't say a thing. ]
[ Vash is such a worrier. Wolfwood just ignores him for a second, tilting his head up toward the sky again, careful not to let the coat slip from his head. His glasses shield his eyes from the droplets, but he lets them close anyway, committing the strange pitter patter to memory.
He sticks out his tongue, tasting the rain for a few moments before looking at Vash again, his curiosity satisfied.
He gives his metal arm a look before deigning to continue on their way back to Dodo House. ]
Mm. What about your arm? Ain't it gonna rust with all this water around?
meryl couldn't leave you out of her little flower bouquet run, as much as she seriously thought about doing so. consider yourself lucky.
unfortunately, there aren't any naturally black flowers she can choose from, so it's hard associating him with colors like she could with vash, but oh well. the bouquet consists of an array of candytufts, yellow carnations, and lavender, all of which are... meant as their negative meanings, and don't particularly go well together visually. but she hides some blue salvia in the mix, a subtle way to tell him she's still thinking of him. look, it's hard for her to just outright give him a bunch of sweet, positive flowers, okay, and she's still a little salty about him up and ditching when vash was in danger. let her live, he's probably not even going to look up what they mean in the first place.
it's accompanied by an equally unsweet note, a symbol of their friendship, when it's left at his door: ]
[ so penny has successfully cleared the dungeon! she's collected stormblooms! she's said hi to the giant golem! ]
[ right now, she's just flying around with her thrusters and new wind powers! mostly gotten the hang of it. at least to get up and down. she sees a man up on the golem's back, with the goats ]
Salutatio--
[ and then he's bucked right off. rather than fall to certain doom, penny opts to zip right in there, arms outstretched to catch him ]
Careful! That's a long fall.
[ is wolfwood getting caught and princess held by a robot girl that's more than half a foot shorter than him? he sure is!! ]
[ Considering that Wolfwood has no weapons with him save his two hands, he thinks he's doing pretty well. There's clearly no way that he can kill this thing with it being over three times his size and made of pure rock, but he's dexterous enough that he'd hopped onto its back like an oversized raccoon and tried to grab the flowers so he could get out of here.
He was making good progress until one of the goats got him in the stomach.
And now some teenager is playing at being his hero. ]
Just peachy.
[ He blinks at her, peering below them to see how exactly she's in the air. ]
You're flyin', right? You wanna drop me back on top of that thing?
[ she seems to be using thrusters on her legs! but also, wind magic. so it's a big unsteady, because her flight isn't working as properly as it should. smh level up more penny. ]
Of course! I will escort you until you can pick flowers. It would be my pleasure.
[ her flight is a bit unsteady but she does manage to get back up to the golem to set him down as gently as she can! however, goats are eyeing him from a distance...... he's made enemies.... i'm goatmoding ]
[ She seems... weirdly genuine? Which shouldn't be a surprise; not everyone here lived off scraps and grew greedy and resentful for it. There are people here who are, apparently, just nice.
He gives her an uncertain look, not entirely comfortable being at her mercy, and wanting her to drop him off quickly. ]
What else would I—
[ Which is exactly when one of the goats chooses death over letting Wolfwood lived, and launches itself through the air like a rocket at the pair of them. ]
[ well, he's on his feet now! he has been relinquished..... ]
[ but honestly, she assumed he was here for the flowers, but maybe he wanted to feed goats or something. badly. ]
[ speaking of badly, goat attack is happening! goats are not monsters or grimm, so penny isn't looking to fight, but she does throw herself protectively in front of wolfwood!!! reaching her arms out to catch the goat-- ]
[ however, she doesn't have her full strength, so it does send her skidding a little into him. ]
Stand down, goat. If you do, I will give you some delicious grass!
[ the goat bites her hair. ]
when you see your ex at the function and you're in shambles
[ Vash stands outside of the suite door, shifting his weight from left to right. It's been a few days, and in that time he's deleted an embarrassing number of half-complete text messages that never seem to come out right. Coming here is probably a mistake, and maybe Wolfwood will just kick him right back out... but Vash has to know, at least, if Wolfwood never wants to talk to him again.
He's sort of grateful that his stomach is empty, because the low-grade nausea couldn't possibly get worse, no matter how nervous he gets. He knocks. He chews the inside of his lip, and then: ] Wolfwood, are you there?
[ There's not too many people who show up at Wolfwood's door, which is why he's not surprised to hear Vash's voice following the tentative knock. He's not even surprised that Vash sought him out first after their fight, because regardless of the cruel things that Wolfwood had said or the fact that he'd tried to kill his brother, he knows that it won't be enough to make Vash hate him.
And as for Wolfwood... Well, he doesn't hate Vash either. Hell, he doesn't even think that he's angry at him. Maybe he should be, for protecting someone that had brought so much pain into his life, but he isn't.
He just isn't. ]
You need somethin'?
[ He leans his weight against the doorframe once he's opened it to see Vash's, frankly ridiculously, anxious face. The sight of him almost has Wolfwood concerned, worried that something had happened, and that's what brought Vash here. ]
[ Wolfwood answers the door like he's ready to throw his weight behind Vash's next request at a moment's notice, and it makes something in Vash's stomach twist. It turns out he's wrong about one thing: he can, in fact, be slightly more nauseous.
At least guilt is a feeling he's accustomed to by now. ]
Nothing. [ Vash holds up both hands. ] I mean - I don't need anything, I just wanted to see how you were. And I wanted to apologize... for the other night.
[ It's remarkable how quickly Vash can elicit a headache from the depths of his previously peaceful brain. Wolfwood just squints at him from behind his glasses, a question leaving his mouth that he doesn't even want the answer to, ] What're you apologizin' for?
[ Sure, Vash had gotten angry, but it was mostly out of concern. He wanted a peaceful resolution where there wasn't one, and Wolfwood is pretty sure that, despite his apologetic tone, his stance hasn't changed on the topic.
He frowns, leaning back as if that would disguise the stiffness in his wounded shoulder, speaking again quickly before Vash can try to answer his question. ]
I'm fine, anyway. I've had worse than Millions Knives stickin' his tiniest knife in my shoulder.
[ Wolfwood isn't wrong - nothing about Vash's stance has changed. If he'd been given the chance, he would have said that he was sorry for getting into it right then and there. He could have expressed his concern a different way, or he could have done a hundred other things.
Instead, Wolfwood keeps going and Vash's eyes narrow just a fraction as he watches him move. He's seen Wolfwood lug that cross around the desert all day without breaking a sweat after the fact. Bullets fall out of him, wounds knit themselves back together in moments without so much as a scratch left behind. If he's stiff, it's because he's still hurt. Because of Nai. Because of Vash. ]
Let me see it, please. [ Vash says, and somehow it falls just short of being a question. He looks up at Wolfwood, his mouth already set in that particular way that means he's no less prepared to be stubborn than he was during their last argument. ]
[ Vash has a look on his face that tells Wolfwood this is going to be a drawn out argument if he doesn't give in and surrender what Vash is requesting.
Unfortunately for both of them, Wolfwood isn't known for being easy. Even if he has a sinking feeling that he's going to lose this fight, he's too irritated not to be stubborn. He thinks that normally people would be grateful to be shown concern, but Wolfwood is too poisoned with bitterness.
He doesn't want Vash to feel guilty, so he decides to deny him repentance. ]
No. [ The frown he returns to Vash isn't as firm, unable to shake the slight petulance that betrays his youth. ] When're you gonna stop worrying about things that got nothing to do with you?
[ He can see why Vash thinks he needs to get involved, but Wolfwood doesn't plan to play into that stupidity. ]
